I Smashed Through The 120mph Swing Speed Barrier

February 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m glad to report, that on Saturday just gone by (February 9), I smashed through the 120mph swing speed barrier for the first time.

Whether it had been a physical or mental barrier, or a combination of both, I’m not sure, but it was really starting to
frustrate me.

My previous best swing speed, measured with my Swing Speed Radar, was 118mph.

My new PB… 126mph!

Yep, smashed the old mark.

I don’t know about you, but for me, that usually seems to be the way.

You struggle for a while to achieve a goal you’ve set for yourself, come up a little short of it, start doubting whether you’ll get there, and when you least expect it… you not only achieve your goal, you smash through it.

The funny thing is, prior to recording my new “Swing Speed PB”…

I hadn’t done any swing speed training for 16 days

I’d been feeling a little flat and uninterested, so I gave myself a break (I typically only do 1 or 2 sessions every 7 to 14 days).

I fully expected to max out at only 112-114mph.

And the early signs weren’t very promising either

102 (a little cold)
101 (near freezing, but around my original swing speed)
105 (some signs of life)
108 (starting to warm up)
111 (getting a little better)
115 (that’s more like it)

then…

126 (boy, did that feel sweet)

Just to make sure, I went again…

119mph
117mph

Yep, I’d definitley reached a new level of swing speed.

My plan now is to consolidate this higher level of , so I can produce it on demand.

It does take a little bit for your body to “let go” and let you tap into the extra swing speed you have inside you.

Until you know the secrets of how to release your swing speed potential, it’s like a big old Volcano laying dormant inside you, plenty of potential… but just needing the right environment to help it erupt.

It sure is a sweet feeling when you swing faster than you have ever swung before… there’s nothing like generating a whole bunch of .

And remember, all else being equal, the faster your clubhead speed, the further you will hit your golf ball.

And who doesn’t get plenty of enjoyment from smacking the ball a long way… I certainly do, and I know I’m not the only guy on the planet who enjoys it (just watch big Bubba Watson or JB Holmes play).

Watch out in the next day or two for a review of one of the Swing Speed Tools I was using on the day I set my new swing speed pb.

Hey there Roger… it was definitely good to have a “jump” up in swing speed. Next step for me is to try and hit that level more consistently.

Also aiming to swing with that type of clubhead speed with more control so I can benefit with it more out on the course.

The 126mph was raw speed, swinging flat out… I throttle back 10 to 15mph out on the course in an effort to get more control with the driver.

Keep me posted on how you get on.

    Cheers

    Sean
