Without a doubt… “The Speed Stik” has to be one of the most well known and heavily marketed swing speed training tools available today.
So, is it, or is it not worth US$100.00?
Should you fork out $100 or more (depending on what country you live in) to get one of these or should you keep the cash in your back pocket?
Well, that’s the question I’m here to help you with.
In short… if you’ve got the cash and you like golf gadgets, then by all means grab one, have a bit of fun, and watch your swing speed bump up a little.
If money is a little tight or you’re just not into spending it on golf gadgets, then I’ll suggest an alternative down below. [Read more →]
Thanks to the guys over at The SandTrap.com you can get a peak at the new Titleist irons coming out in the next few months before they’re even up on the Titleist site.
Two of the four new irons coming out, the Titleist AP1 and Titleist AP2 (AP standing for “Advanced Performance) have apparently been designed to help optimize launch conditions and ball flight for golfers who aren’t fortunate enough to be able to create the ball speed that tour players do.
I like the fact that Titleist are finally putting out some irons with a little more game improvement technology in them. I really like Titleist as a brand. In fact at one stage, I had a full bag of Titleist - maybe even end up with a full bag of them again someday. But for one reason or another, some other clubs found their way in.
“If you think of Titleist as a hot blonde… then you could say I sure as hell had a fetish for blondes. At the moment I must have an infatuation with Asian Babes, because I’ve currently got a bunch of Mizuno and Srixon clubs in my bag.”
Imagine swinging a golf club in a way that resembled Joe Cocker performing… it would be strange looking, but it might just work for you.
(Make sure you take a look at this classic performance by Joe Cocker at Woodstock singing “With A Little Help From My Friends” it’s brilliant stuff:)
Anyway, I was watching the tv show Parkinson the other night, and a performance by Joe Cocker singing “With A Little Help From My Friends” got me thinking about the modern “Picture Perfect” golf swings.[Read more →]
I was just reading a great article over at TheSandTrap.com titled “80% Swing Speed”.
It highlighted to me a number of the benefits associated with having above average swing speed.
The article mentioned how Tiger Woods normal 8 iron travels 158 yards… that in itself is not all that interesting, what is interesting is that he can also smack his 8 iron around the 200 yard mark in certain situations when needed.
That’s a massive difference in distance.
How is this possible?
Well, because Tiger Woods has plenty of Swing Speed, most of the time he’s able to “throttle back” and focus on control with his iron play.
The poor old (especially the old) weekend hacker who has the swing speed of a hibernating sloth, trys to make up for it by swinging all out on every full shot.
Doing this generally ends poorly… they get out of balance, out of time and their rhythm is like that of a breakdancing robot!
This lack of control not only kills their swing speed, it kills any chance of getting a quality strike on the ball.
It’s a little bit of the EGO factor coming into play…
Most hackers would be better off taking more club, swinging in a controlled manner, staying in balance and enjoy more consistency and greater results.
Players with higher swing speeds already need less club than the majority, so their ego gets in their way less.
The other “control” benefit of extra swing speed is that instead of hitting say a 7 iron into a green like everyone else, you may only need a 9 iron or PW. Shorter irons tend to have tighter “shot patterns” than longer clubs.
So get yourself some extra swing speed and enjoy greater control.
