Without a doubt… “The Speed Stik” has to be one of the most well known and heavily marketed swing speed training tools available today.
So, is it, or is it not worth US$100.00?
Should you fork out $100 or more (depending on what country you live in) to get one of these or should you keep the cash in your back pocket?
Well, that’s the question I’m here to help you with.
In short… if you’ve got the cash and you like golf gadgets, then by all means grab one, have a bit of fun, and watch your swing speed bump up a little.
If money is a little tight or you’re just not into spending it on golf gadgets, then I’ll suggest an alternative down below.
So What Is The Speed Stik?
Basically, it’s a long metal pole, with a grip on one end, and up the top, there’s a gauge to indicate your swing speed.
It’s fun to swing, because you get intant feedback on your swing speed and it makes a really great swooshing sound.
By the way, the swooshing sound is also great feedback.Â
Typically the faster you’re able to swing the speed stik (or any golf club for that matter), the louder the swooshing sound is. Just by tuning into this noise, and finding what gives you the greatest swooshing noise, will help you to pick up your speed.
Personally, I think the gauge gives a reasonable indication of your swing speed to start with, but after a little use, I don’t think it’s reliable.
I can easily max it out at 140mph on the gauge, even when I purposefully swing well below that speed. It’s a good boost to the ego, but when I’ve looked at what it indicates and what the Swing Speed Radar measures, there’s often a discrepancy between the two.Â

As I said, if you’ve got the cash, by all means grab one, but for me at a US$100.00 price point, here’s what I think is a better alternative.

Put your $100 dollars towards a Swing Speed Radar ($150 for the model with Tempo Timer) and get yourself a cheap wooden or metal pole (they also make the nice swooshing noice
).
This way, you get a more accurate swing speed reading and you can measure your swing speed with different clubs.
Feel free to share your thoughts or any experiences you’ve have with “The Speed Stik”.
