Swing Speed Tools

December 17th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Look through any , watch or surf for golf information online… and you’re bound to see all types of weird and wonderful gadgets promising to transform your golf game.

Some help, some hinder, and some are just a total waste of money and pure marketing hype.

In the world of golf… increased , more power and extra distance are common “benefits” promised by marketing companies trying to peddle their goods (after all… who doesn’t want more swing speed!).

I’m currently in the process of test driving some of the more popular out there and I’ll be reporting back to you on each of them as soon as I’ve had time to give them a fair go.

I like to try things for a bit, play around with them and see how they go, before I comment on them.  It’s too easy to get caught up in the hype and excitement when you first get a new “toy” (a bit of a placebo effect), so I’ll give things a go and get back to you with my opinion on whether it’s worth it or not.

By the way, if there’s anything on the market that you’re interested in and would like me to be the guinea pig for and test drive, leave a comment and let me know what it is.

“Swing Speed Tools” can probably fall into the following categories:

• Resistance Tools – anything that increase the resistance to your swing (could be air resistance, increase weight, tubing etc)
• Swing Speed Readings – anything that gives an indication or measurement of your swing speed
• Body Performance – Physical weaknesses, limitations, lack of flexibility, muscle control etc can all impact your ability to generate maximum swing speed… I’ll look at products that claim to help some of these areas
• Technical Analysis – major technical flaws can limit your swing speed, some basic swing analysis tools can help you become aware of them (1st step in solving the problem)

Anyway, stay tuned and I’ll keep you up to date on the pros and cons of the swing speed tools out there and let you know what my top picks are… and while I’m busy doing a bit of research on what works and what doesn’t, be sure to leave a comment and tell me what swing speed tools have helped you ou.

Check out some of the ‘tempo’ training devices when looking at improving your swing speed. Everyone knows those nice, smooth, in tempo swings always seem to send the ball a country mile. SwingTempo and TourTempo are a couple of them. I’ve used both of these devices, and I am pretty impressed with the results. When I ’swing to the beat’ I definitely see an increase in swing speed. When I try to swing as hard as possible…my swing speed generally declines…go figure.

swing speed radar is good, it shows you that when you think you are giving it the full beans you may actually be swinging slower

    ss accurate

ball speed only accurate on shots struck below 12 degrees
